Can You Believe in Karma?
What is Karma?
Karma is a belief that comes from Buddhism and Hinduism. The idea states that based on a good or poor action, a good or poor action will then result. A good action done receives a good action, a poor action receives a poor action. Acting evil in life will lead to the next life being poor, living a charitable life will live to a great supposed next life.
Can You Believe in Karma?
It certainly depends on how one is defining the term. As we do not believe in having many lives(i.e. reincarnation), this part of the definition can not work under Christianity and would contradict the scriptures(read more here).
Even if this multiple life idea does not work, the other part of the definition is indeed true. Our poor actions do lead to further poor actions. As Job writes, "Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity(they do evil things), and sow wickedness, reap the same(and receive the same)," (Job 4:8 KJV). This verse means that when one does evil, they will reap poor things to come upon them. Another verse with a similar message is from an epistle from Paul, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap," (Galatians 6:7 KJV). Once again the message of when a poor action then repucutions is rather clear.
We also see that for good actions, good things happen, "The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward," (Proverbs 11:18 KJV). If one does good, good things will come to them.
More Verses:
"He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail," (Proverbs 22:8 KJV).
