Do Our New Bodies Have Disabilities?
Do Our New Bodies Have Disabilities?
In the Bible, we are told that we will receive new, heavenly bodies, but what will they look like? It is hard to provide a good answer as the Bible keeps this mainly a surprise; however, the Bible does provide some detail.
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is and everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure,” (1 John 3:2-3 NASB1995). The verse tells us these bodies will be heavenly in some sense, but it is of course, rather vague.
We can, however, assume things such as disabilities will not be present. Our bodies will be pure, so it seems rather plausible defects will not be present. This is not to say that having a disability is sinful or a curse, but when we fell into sin, all of Earth also fell. Sin brought forth imperfections such as disabilities and illness (Genesis 6:12: Romans 5:18). It is a state of holiness, we would not be still faced with the appearance of sin.
