Does God Tell Us Things in Our Dreams?
Does God Tell us Things in Dreams?
Dreams and nightmares are something that is likely caused by the brain trying to consolidate and analyze memories. It seems to act in a sort of time for the brain to go through the events of the day; even so, God does at times speaks to us via our dreams.
One example where God speaks to one in a dream is in the Gospel of Matthew: "And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way. Now when they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him,” (Matthew 2:12-13 NASB1995).
In the book of Acts, we read: "And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams," (Acts 2:17 NASB1995).
Now it is also important to realize that not all dreams do come from God, so we must be careful about assuming this. If we dream something, before proclaiming it, be sure it is biblically accurate(James 3:1) so as to not deceive.
