Refuting The Essence-Person Paradox
If God is Triune in Essence, How Can Jesus Not be Triune?
One new objection to the Trinity bases itself on a confusion between distinctions of essence. Due to this, I am labeling it as the Essence-Person Paradox or EEP. The argument goes like this: "If God is triune in essence or nature, why is Jesus not triune as he is God?"
The objection here is problematic for it confuses the persons of God and the Godhead. The Godhead is what God is: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The personhood is who God is, of what person. When we say God is triune, we speak on the what or relationship of the three persons. The three persons make up what is called the Godhead or Trinity, the persons are not the Trinity alone.
