The Disabled and The Bible
What Does The Bible Say About Those With Disabilities?
Even in the Old Testament, treating the disabled with respect was taught: "You shall not curse a deaf man, nor place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall revere your God; I am the Lord," (Leviticus 19:14 NASB1995). This is, of course, reinforced in several places, most notably in Mark 12: "The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these," (Mark 12:31 NASB1995).
We are also told to not seclude them: "But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous," (Luke 14:13-14 NASB1995).
