What is a False Prophet?

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus warns us of people who will come and deceive many(Matthew 24:11). So, the biggest issue with this threat is they live to deceive; perhaps some do out of ignorance of not reading the texts they claim to cherish or simply malicious intent, but either way false prophets will rise. From Muhhmud to Joseph Smith, there are thousands of examples.

He further continues, "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect," (Matthew 24:24KJV). These prophets may show great signs and wonders, but one must ignore such sights and know they are of deceit.

So, how are we to know who is a false prophet? As Jesus states, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them," (Matthew 7:15-20 KJV). One must see how a prophet speaks, what they say, and what they do. Does it align with the teachings of Christ or one of deceit?
