What is a Freewill Offering?

What is a Freewill Offering?

In the book of Exodus, we read: "All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill(or willing) offering to the Lord," (Exodus 35:29 ESV). Very simply, this is an offering provided by one freely or out of desire to do so. Some offerings were needed, such as sin offerings as a sort of way to request forgiveness, but these were done merely as extra. If the person felt the temple was doing well or wished to just give more to God for they feel blessed, this would be called a freewill offering.
