Can Christians Vent?

What Does it Mean to Vent?

The act of expressing an emotion, particularly loudly or aggressively.

Should Christians Vent?

The point of expressing one's emotions to another is very important for having said pent-up emotions can cause one to figuratively explode. By speaking to another, it gives us relief, calming one. In fact, the Bible even encourages one to vent to God. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you," (1 Peter 5:6-7 KJV). God truly cares for you, so if you have something on your chest, tell him in prayer. "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved," (Psalm 55:22 KJV). We also have, in a sort of way, a specific book on venting and lamenting called Lamentations. The book laments over the fall of Jerusalem(or Zion)(Read in Lamentations 2). Even through these Laments, the poet still says, "The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity," (Lamentations 1:18 KJV). Even though we may be able to lament, we must keep the Lord to his proper place, meaning, we may be angry or upset, but we must always keep the Lord in mind and not lose his sight. Do not allow your vents to cause rage(James 1:20), gossip(Titus 3:2 & 1 Timothy 5:13), et cetera. You may lament, but do it with the kindness and respect for others.
