Can I Listen to Secular Music?

What is Secular Music?

Secular music, in the shortest of definitions, refers to any music that is not religious in nature.

Can a Christian Listen to Secular Music?

The Bible, in no place, specifically condemns the listening of secular music, but there are things that we could perhaps use to at least know what we are unable to do. Due to this lack of a statement, we can at the very least be wise by knowing not to listen to music that promotes sin. If a song is saying to be promiscuous or doing some sort of sin, one should most definitely reject listening to the song.

As Paul says, "Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death(something that is sinful), not only do the same, but have pleasure in them(people) that do them(the sin)," (Romans 1:32 KJV). According to the verse, those who do not participate in sinful behavior but approve of it, are without understanding. It is a call to avoid promoting or accepting sin and instead, expose it and do what is right. Additionally, it reminds us that engaging in or approving sin has severe spiritual and eternal consequences, and we will all be judged by God.
