Can You Sell Your Soul?
Can You Sell Your Soul?
The main problem with this question is we really do not have much biblical precedent for such an idea; in fact, we only have one example of the Devil even trying to bargain with someone which is in the Gospel of Luke. In this passage, Satan takes Jesus to a mountain(Luke 4:5) and offers him the kingdoms of the world if he(Jesus) worships him(The Devil). "And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve," (Luke 4:6-8 KJV). However, this seems more like a temptation over a bargain. In the end, it does not seem like one can sell their soul to the Devil, but they most definitely can be deceived if they give in to his temptations. (Read more here)
It is also worth noting that the Bible does say that the Devil does own people — at least in a certain respect — who are not of God. As John notes, "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother," (1 John 3:10 KJV). In a way, it seems people sell their soul to him for free; this is a rather contrary idea to the idea of it in is pop-culture,
