Did The Tower of Babel Come Before or After The Flood?
Did The Tower of Babel Come Before or After The Flood?
The Tower of Babel is a story found in the Bible in the book of Genesis. During this time, the people were united and spoke the same language. They decided to build a tower that would reach the heavens in order to make a name for themselves and prevent themselves from being scattered across the earth. However, God saw their pride and confusion and scattered them across the earth, giving them different languages so they could no longer understand each other. This occurred in Genesis 11.
The Flood, also found in the book of Genesis, is the story of God's decision to destroy the world because of the wickedness of humanity. God chose Noah, a righteous man, to build an ark and save himself and his family, as well as representatives of all the world's animals, from the flood. After the flood, God made a covenant with Noah and his descendants, promising never to destroy the earth with a flood again. This is found in Genesis 6-9, as it is chronologically earlier it seems the flood occurred before.
