Is 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Sexist?

One of the most popular verses people use to try to prove the Bible is sexist is 1 Corinthians 14:34-35. Let's disprove this!

The verse in question says this, "35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. 36 Or was it from you that the word of God first went out? Or has it come to you only?" (1 Corinthians 14:34-35). A normal person would read these verses and assume that the Bible really is sexist, but let's take a closer look into these verses.

First off, we must remember what this chapter is about. This chapter is a letter from Paul to a church. What for? Well, he was trying to help with the chaos of the church. They asked for help so here Paul is to give some guidance! We must also have some historical background of the time this was written. As we all know, back then women didn't have a very good education. Most were only trained how to be a good mother. Would you want someone uneducated speaking in church? I extremely doubt it. As the verse says, they should ask their husbands if they were confused. The reason for this is because they had the education to be able to explain things to them.

We know that women can speak in the church by reading other books of the Bible(Acts); since we know this, we can draw two conclusions. Either possibility a, there is a contradiction, or b being there is something going on in this one church. As we remember earlier, there was something going on in this church, it was chaotic, it was the reason Paul wrote to them in the first place!
