What Are Callings From God?
What Are Callings From God?
Callings in the Bible tend to consist of apostleship or the request to go into priesthood. One very specific example is with Paul/Saul. "But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel," (Acts 9:15 KJV). Paul was chosen/called to be an apostle of God(also see Romans 1:1 and 1 Corinthians 1:1), to teach his name to all people.
Isaiah too was called by God, but instead, he was called to be a prophet. "Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the Lord called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name," (Isaiah 49:1 KJV).
God also calls people to condemn those who need to be condemned, for example, Jonah. "Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord," (Jonah 1:1-3 KJV).
