What is The Papacy?
The papacy very simply is the pope(1). The person who presides over the Holy See(Vatican) The pope is seen as the successor of the apostle Peter(Simon)[0]—this is heavily attested among NonRoman Catholics—who Roman Catholics believe to have been the first Pope[0]. In all matters of faith, discipline, and morals, the pope is seen as the supreme authority within the universal church[0].
Fun Fact!
The term pope was originally applied to all bishops in the west; however, Pope Gregory VII(7) restricted the title merely to the Bishop of Rome. [1]
