Why May God Not Answer a Prayer?
During prayer, a fear of God not answering prayers is one that can certainly devour people, but why might God not answer a prayer in the first place? Well, luckily the Bible tells us these reasons.

One reason James provides is that we perhaps are not praying for the right reasons. As he states, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts," (James 4:3 KJV). People ask in prayers, yet we see that their requests may contain sinful requests such as lustful desires.

It is also possible that our prayers may not perfectly align with God's plan. As John writes, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us," (1 John 5:14 KJV). The important part is according to his will, as we are not omniscient we can never truly know what is the best for a certain situation, and even during terrible situations good can come out of it. In the end, we must always trust God and his plan for we know in the end good will prevail.

Another issue is one may not have faith in God, "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive," (Matthew 21:22 KJV). If one does not have faith in God to even answer the prayer, it seems God will not answer. Also read: Mark 11:22-24, James 1:6, John 15:7, and 1 Peter 3:12.
