Who Is Satan/Devil/ Lucifer?
Who Was Satan/Devil/Lucifer?
Out of all of the people in the Bible, besides Jesus that is, there is so much false information pertaining to the Devil. Hopefully, we will be able to fix this confusion. Satan starts in Genesis where he deceives mankind(Genesis 3); there he is known as a serpent. In the garden, he is cursed too, "And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life," (Genesis 3:14 KJV).
Explaining The Curse God Placed on Satan:
This is a rather strange curse, to be forced to lie on one's belly for all its life with two interpretations. The first being, in Genesis, the Devil took the form as a snake where when he was cursed, it literally affected the snake species, causing them to lose their limbs(the same goes for animals like worms or other creatures). This literal interpretation is extremely bizarre and is usually rare compared to the latter option. This being that the Devil being described as a snake is most likely metaphorical, describing his deceptiveness. The quote, "...upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life," (Genesis 3:14 KJV) likely refers to a sense of loss of power. In our modern phrase, bite the dust(representing death or a great loss) may have a similar connotation. An idea of being cast down before God.
Satan, The Anointed Cherub:
In Ezekiel, we read that Satan was a Cherub(read about those here). As he writes, "13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering...14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast(was) perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon* the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee," (Ezekiel 28:13-18 KJV).
Satan, as Ezekiel records, was beautiful. The anointed Cherub(Ezekiel 28:4 KJV), yet, his own pride corrupted him. God thus, in his justness, cast him out. Satan, in his pride, even tried to tempt God himself(Matthew 4:1-11).
Satan, The Tortured:
A common misconception of Satan is that he is the king of Hell; however, this couldn't be further from the truth. Instead, he is actually one who is in misery. As John records in Revelations, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever," (Revelations 20:10 KJV). The Devil has no power in Hell, he, like any other, will not be having the best of times.
