What Does It Mean to be Circumcised in Christ?

A not-so-common phrase you may have heard is the phrase "circumcised in Christ." Although it may sound strange and unfamiliar, it holds a profound and powerful significance.

In the book of Romans, Paul writes, "But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God," (Romans 2:29 KJV). As Paul wrote here, it is not enough to be circumcised physically; true circumcision must come from the heart, by the Spirit. So, what does it mean to be circumcised in Christ?

When a person is born again by the power of the Holy Spirit, they are circumcised in Christ. They are spiritually transformed because of him. This transformation is described in Colossians 2:11-14, as the removal of the "body of the flesh," which represents the old self with all of its sin and unrighteousness. When a person is circumcised in Christ, they are no longer controlled by sin but are instead filled with the Holy Spirit and have the ability to live a holy and righteous life. It means experiencing a deep and lasting transformation that affects not only your heart but also your actions and behaviors. It means being reconciled to God and becoming a child of God through faith in Jesus. It means being united with Christ in his death and resurrection, and living a life that is no longer controlled by sin but empowered by the Holy Spirit. So, have you been circumcised in Christ? If not, there's no time like the present to experience this life-changing transformation.
