Can A Christian Be Racist?

Throughout history, Christians have looked to the Bible for guidance and wisdom. The belief that we are all created equal and worthy of love and respect is a theme that is consistently present throughout the Bible.  In this article, we will examine several key verses from the Bible that demonstrate the Bible's stance on racism and how it promotes equality and unity among all people.

As a starting point, let's take a look at the book of Galatians, which states, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus," (Galatians 3:28 KJV). The verse teaches that all people in Christ are equal and no distinction is made based on race, class, or sex. This message of equality is repeated in Colossians, which says, "Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all," (Colossians 3:11 KJV). Both of these verses emphasize that in Christ, all distinctions and divisions between people are erased, and Christ is present and at work in all people.

In first John, he reminds us that loving others, including our brothers and sisters of different races, is a fundamental part of loving God: "If a man say, I love God, and hateth(hates) his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" (1 John 4:20 KJV). As people of all races can be saved, this verse helps us with our cause.

The Bible provides Christians with powerful guidance for living out their faith in a way that promotes equality, unity, and love for all. Through its teachings on the equality of all people in Christ, its condemnation of favoritism and partiality, and its call to extend kindness and compassion towards others, the Bible is clearly antiracist and promotes the idea that all people are deserving of respect and love.

Now, this is not to say a person will claim to be Christian yet be racist, as the lukewarm do exist, but a real Christian cannot be racist as the Bible clearly states.
