Is God Sinless?
Is God Sinless?
There are several passages that tell us God is sinless. One example is in Isaiah, "And one(i.e. an angel) cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts(i.e. God): the whole earth is full of his glory" (Isaiah 6:3 KJV).
The Word Holy:
Now when reading Isaiah, one may be confused how this is claiming God is sinless. Well, the word holy is defined as morally and spiritually perfect. If he is morally perfect, he is thus sinless.
The book of Hebrews also makes this fact known. "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin" (Hebrews 4:14-15). Jesus, as he is God, proves God is sinless. Click here to read on how we know Jesus is God.
Another good verse lies in the book of 1 John. "You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin" (1 John 3:5). This verse isn't as obvious, but it does do the job. Who took away our sins? Well, Jesus did on the cross! Once again, as Jesus is God, that means God is sinless.
