Why Was Jesus Crucified?

Why Was Jesus Crucified?

First of all, it should be said that crucifixion is considered one of the worst punishments out there.  In the book of Luke, it tells us that Jesus was literally bleeding blood(Luke 22:40-46)! We also must learn about a group of people called the Sanhedrin. They weren't exactly rulers, but more like Jews with a lot of power. They worked as Judges primarily.  They weren't very happy with Jesus and disagreed with several of his claims(such as how he claimed to be God).

So, what were they to do? Well, they decided to call up Pontius Pilate(Pontius Pilate was a governor of the province of Judaea, serving under Emperor Tiberius) and asked him to put Jesus to death for being a heretic. As we know, he agreed to do the deed. As mentioned earlier the punishment of crucifixion was not a fun punishment, and they determined it was perfect for what they believed to be a heretic. Yet, they were quite mistaken.
